As you may or may not know, my home town is Murphys, California, located in the heart of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. What once was a booming gold mining town turned wine-lovers destination. I am often asked to return home where I have the pleasure of photographing old friends and former classmates who are getting married, expanding their families, or needing head shots for their growing careers.
This lovely family I happen to have been best friends with the mother, Allison, for 30 years we met in pre-school and became inseparable for the years to come. We traveled to Maine and later Italy together, both lived in San Francisco with countless brunch dates and late-night pie slices. I was the maid of honor in her wedding when she and Scotty finally made their long-term and long-distance relationship official. We have had many adventures together but watching her become a mother has been a magical experience.
Knowing that tiny baby Darla won't be tiny for long I had to drag them out of their house, into the cold March weather, to go just a mile down the road to where this beautiful oak woodland and farm pastures nestle in amongst the rolling foothills. The photo shoot didn't last more than 20 minutes but we got some wonderful shots that they can treasure for the years to come.
